The University of California Student Association (UCSA) is a coalition of undergraduate and graduate/professional student governments from all 10 UC campuses. In February of 2014, ASUCI voted to withdraw from UCSA after numerous failures by the UCSA board of directors to support for students of color, University workers, and other organizers; inaction regarding the appointment of Janet Napolitano as UC president; and anti-black and anti-immigrant rhetoric and behavior by UCSA staff and board members (for more information, please refer to this legislation). ASUCI rejoined UCSA at the beginning of the 2015-2016 academic year, in hopes that these grievances had been addressed. However, following the Students of Color Conference at UCI, it became very clear that many of the issues that were brought up by ASUCI in 2014 have still not been resolved. We welcome students to come to the ASUCI Senate meeting tonight (Dec. 1st) in Woods BC from 5-7pm to discuss ASUCI’s membership in UCSA.
