Hi hi Anteaters, hope everyone’s having a great school year so far!
My name is Jun Jang, I’m a 5th year Asian American Studies and Political Science double major (hoping to minor in Public Health), and I’m excited to serve as your Elections Commissioner for the 2024-2025 academic year!
I’ve been a part of our student government since my first year at UCI, starting my advocacy journey in ASUCI as an Organizing Staffer under the Office of the External Vice President – fighting for affirmative action, college affordability, housing security, and a more sustainable and ethical dining service on campus. Since then, I’ve served as your Student Programming Funding Board Director, your At-Large Senator for two years, your Senate President, and your ASUCI President – I’ve been around for a while, so if you’re ever interested in getting involved, feel free to reach out!
As your Elections Commissioner, my goals for this year are four-fold: 1) to increase our campus’ voter turnout to reach that ever-elusive 20% threshold, 2) to encourage more students from all across our campus to file for candidacy, 3) to make our elections as engaging, exciting, and impactful as possible, and 4) to revamp our governing documents so they’re more conducive to student involvement in the future! If any of these goals sound interesting to you, consider applying to join the Elections Commission – the more, the merrier!
Outside of ASUCI (which is pretty rare for me haha), I chair our campus’ Student Fee Advisory Committee and Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee, work at our campus’ Basic Needs Center as a Basic Needs Advocate, and perform with Hansori at UCI, our campus’ Korean traditional drumming club! Chances are, you’ll likely see me around campus running from meeting to meeting with a matcha latte in hand, so feel free to say hi – I’m always down to connect :D
DEPUTY ELECTIONS COMMISSIONERS
Under Article X. of the ASUCI Elections Code, the Elections Commission is split into four (4) committees, each managed by a Deputy Elections Commissioner – Candidate Coordination, Event Coordination, Investigations, and Marketing & Outreach! Under the direction of the Elections Commissioner, these Deputies lead their respective committees throughout the year to deliver on projects, initiatives, and events that support the undergraduate student body in a variety of different ways. It’s their work that makes the fair and impartial administration of the Spring ASUCI General Elections and, if needed, any Special Elections throughout the academic year possible! Learn more about these dedicated student leaders and their respective committees below!
