JUDICIAL BOARD

Office Mission

The Judicial Board is the Judicial Branch of ASUCI, vested with all judicial authority of the Association as prescribed by the ASUCI Constitution. The Judicial Board’s authority extends to all judicial cases arising under the ASUCI Constitution; various ASUCI By-laws; all official actions of Executive Officers, Senators, Commissioners, and other ASUCI personnel; and any matters delegated to the Judicial Board. The Judicial Board also acts as the board of appeals over complaints regarding decisions of the Election Commission. Additionally, the ASUCI Constitution empowers the Judicial Board to uphold the rights of undergraduate students and campus organizations.

JUDICIAL BOARD DOCKET

The Judicial Board Docket entails all legislation of the ASUCI Senate under review, all Formal Petitions for Interpretation under consideration, and all cases and hearings being heard by the Board. All legislation not yet passed, defeated, or withdrawn by the Senate is included on the Docket, as are all Petitions for Formal Interpretation that have been accepted by the Board but which have not yet been ruled upon. When before the Board, cases and hearings will be added to the Docket as need be.

Under Art. IX § I of the ASUCI Bylaws, the Judicial Board has up to five days to review legislation passed by the ASUCI Senate. Due to this timeline and to the nature of the legislative process, the Board does not accept public input for the process of legislative review. For Formal Petitions for Interpretation, Cases, and Hearings, however, the Board welcomes and encourages third parties to submit amicus briefs if they wish to argue for a particular outcome under the belief that the Board’s decision may materially affect an interest of that third party. While the timeline for Cases and Hearings varies greatly depending on the kind of case or hearing and the manner in which it was received, all non-urgent Petitions for Formal Interpretation are, barring extensions, completed within four academic weeks of their receipt. For Petitions, please submit all amicus briefs within two weeks of their posting to this page.
