***[2024-2025 Council on Diversity and Equity] Anteater Cultural Appreciation Program (ACAP) Intern Application

Due Monday, September 23rd, 2023 by 11:59 pm

Commission Description:

The Anteater Cultural Awareness Program is a course created under the 2020-2021 Visions Leadership Program with the purpose of promoting a safe and engaging environment for students to learn about diverse cultures. When interacting in cross-cultural situations and spaces, a lack of awareness can lead to inaccurate conclusions. Every student and culture within the UCI community deserves to be acknowledged and treated with respect, and ACAP hopes to extend the resources and means for students to gain necessary intercultural and interpersonal skills through campus events and the ACAP course.

The Anteater Cultural Awareness Program (ACAP) is a commission under the Council of Diversity and Equity/Office of Internal Vice President. Our goal is to celebrate and raise more awareness about the many cultures represented at UC Irvine, debunk common misconceptions, and work towards a campus where students feel empowered to celebrate their own and fellow Anteater’s backgrounds. As an intern, your duties will include but are not limited to event planning, graphic design to promote events, and event support during the event itself. Furthermore, ACAP hosts a 1.3 unit Pass/No Pass class every spring quarter in which you will be expected to support by promoting class discussions during the class and finding panelists and faculty to invite to the class during the planning stages.

If selected for this internship, you will be expected to dedicate around 3 hours per week to ACAP/CODE/IVP related tasks which will include but not limited to 1 hour commission meetings, 1 hour of pub hours, and 1 hour of take-home tasks.

Commission Goals:

1.) Create a safe and inclusive environment for UCI students to learn and share their cultural backgrounds and experiences.

2.) Acknowledge and break down stereotypes, injustices, and false narratives of different cultures.

3.) Encourage students to have an open mind while learning something new and talking to people with a different background.
